The Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata, hosted a session on ‘Encouraging Student Entrepreneurship’ on June 17. Members of NASSCOM 10,000 Startups interacted with students of BTech in Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering.
10,000 Startups is an initiative launched by NASSCOM in 2013 to support technology entrepreneurship in the country and scale up the startup eco-system.
The team from 10,000 Startups comprised Arihant Kothari, deputy manager, 10,000 Startups; and Anup Das, chief strategy officer & head of India operation at Exavalu, India.
“There is a lot of potential among students. Many of them have concrete ideas that are in the nascent stage and require adequate mentoring,” Das said.
“We will give our support to these students whose ideas can start off an enterprise. I am glad that such prospective engineers who also want to be entrepreneurs are coming up with such ideas. Since we have a partnership with the West Bengal government, we can help these students to a greater extent,” Kothari said.
Das and Kothari evaluated the students’ projects like automatic indoor air quality monitor at COVID-19 patient facilities, use of 555 timer in various industrial and biomedical applications, smart energy-efficient street lighting system, automatic plant watering system, design of smart agriculture system for tea gardens and password-based safety system.
“The future is for the entrepreneurs who can add value to the society. India is now taking the lead in creating startups that can contribute to nation-building. At Heritage, we have already created foundation to encourage startup ecosystem with the Institute,” said P.K. Agarwal, chief executive officer, Heritage Group of Institutions, Kolkata.
