The Ministry of Education has extended the deadline for students to apply for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) for the academic year 2024-25. Students who want to apply for the Central Sector Pre-Matric scheme now have until October 31, 2024, to submit their applications via the official portal (scholarships.gov.in).
Two-Level Application Verification Process
The application process for the NSP involves two stages of verification:
- Level 1 (L1): Conducted by the Institute Nodal Officer (INO), with a deadline of November 15, 2024.
- Level 2 (L2): Carried out by the District Nodal Officer (DNO)/State Nodal Officer (SNO), with a deadline of November 30, 2024.
The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) provides financial support to Class IX students who have successfully cleared the qualifying examination conducted by the State/UT governments. The scholarship is renewable through Classes X to XII, provided the student meets academic performance criteria. The scholarship is exclusively available to students attending State Government, Government-aided, or local body schools.
Eligible students receive an annual scholarship of ₹12,000, which is directly transferred to their bank accounts through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.
This initiative aims to support meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring they can continue their education without financial constraints.
Interested students are encouraged to apply and follow the verification steps to secure the scholarship for their academic journey.
