Kolkata emerged as one of the most preferred job destinations in India during the period between September and December 2021, Apna.co, a platform for job seekers, has stated in its latest report.

With around 12 lakh job openings, the city recorded more than 25 lakh interviews during the aforementioned period for various job roles across sectors and industries.

The West Bengal capital witnessed a 104% increase in job vacancies in the last quarter (October-December) in comparison to the July-September quarter in 2021, Apna.co said in its report. Website users from across West Bengal and North East India were seen applying for jobs in Kolkata from September to December last year.

Telecallers/BPO, delivery person, back office, sales, accounts, retail, marketing, computer data entry operator, logistics, operations, human resources were the most in-demand roles from October to December in 2021.

Around 48% of all the Apna.co users who applied for a job in the last three months of 2021 were either class XII pass or had an even lower educational qualification.

Apna.co aims to empower every job seeker in the state with equal access to opportunities despite their education qualification, gender and socio-economic background. The platform has become a default choice for 10 lakh and counting professionals in Kolkata, it stated in a press communique.

Commenting on the growth, Manas Singh, chief business officer, Apna.co, said, “Kolkata has been witnessing a quarter-on-quarter increase in job openings, making it a popular destination amongst job seekers. About 30% of the jobs applied in Kolkata in the last 90 days through this platform were by women users in the city. Women have been interviewing for a variety of roles including telecallers, back office, receptionists, HR, data entry etc. Women in Kolkata were also actively engaging on apna.co communities. The platform has become a trusted partner for 2.5 lakh women users from the city.

Companies including Swiggy, Zomato, Rapido, Urban Company, Flipkart, HDFC Life, Reliance Nippon Life Insurance, Kotak Life Insurance, Uber etc. have been hiring their workforce in West Bengal through this platform.
