The Indian Army has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Kashmir University that will allow soldiers serving in the valley to study various courses through distance learning.
The MoU was signed on November 8 by the vice-chancellor of the university, Talat Ahmad and General Officer Commanding of Chinar Corps, lieutenant general D P Pandey at Gandhi Hall, University of Kashmir.
According to the MoU, soldiers posted in Kashmir, will be able to seek admission into various courses being offered by the Directorate of Distance Education, University of Kashmir. The type of courses ranges from six-month certificate courses to one-year diploma courses and two-year postgraduate courses.
A total of 18 courses are presently available, and these include MA or MSc in Maths, MA in English, MA in Urdu and MA in Education under the two-year programmes PG Diploma Computer Applications, PG Diploma in Web designing, PG Diploma in Cyber Law and PG Diploma in Tourism Management in the Diploma category.
After the signing of the memorandum, the vice-chancellor of Kashmir University Talat Ahmad emphasised on the varsity's core values and mentioned the significance of the long-term MoU which will benefit the soldiers posted in Kashmir.
The University of Kashmir, with its rich heritage, culture and academia, will provide a one of the kind opportunity for Army personnel and civil defence employees of Chinar Corps to pursue higher educational qualifications, domain specialisation and subject matter expertise.
