Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University have decided to resume offline classes from February 7, with strict adherence to COVID safety guidelines by New Delhi’s District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).
In an order issued on February 6, JNU stated that the university shall be made fully functional at 100% strength. All staff members and officers have been asked to attend offices on all working days from February 7 onwards.
Deans and chairpersons of various schools, centres and special centres have been asked to resume offline academic, teaching and learning activities in consultation with stakeholders and subject to strict compliance of standard operating procedure in keeping with the DDMA order. All libraries have been asked to be kept open for students.
“Meetings, as far as possible, shall be conducted on video-conferencing and personal meetings with visitors, unless necessary in public interest, are to be avoided. Efforts should be made to move files electronically to the extent possible. Gymnasium and yoga activities are allowed to open, subject to strict compliance with Covid-appropriate behaviour,” The JNU order read.
The security branch of the university shall ensure effective checking of movement of persons and vehicles in the university campus by putting adequate number of checking points with the objective to prevent unnecessary movement of people on roads. The branch will ensure that movement of individuals and vehicles are allowed strictly in accordance with guidelines prescribed in the order.
The notification issued by the Guru Govind Singh University stated that all universities and colleges under the Delhi government will reopen with effect from February 7 for physical classes. The university advised its students and staff to strictly follow all COVID safety guidelines issued by the DDMA.
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University was established under the provisions of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Act, 1998 read. The University is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 12B of the UGC Act.
Jawaharlal Nehru University has been ranked number one in India by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a Grade Point of 3.91 (on a scale of 4). JNU had been ranked third among all universities in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2016 and second in 2017.
