Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF) at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) recently organised a one-day virtual workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) as a part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, celebrated across the country to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence.
The workshop was aimed at disseminating information about benefits of IPR for boosting the economic development of the country. It also focused on commercial gain, sharing technology, innovation and global best practices adopted by the user countries.
The virtual event was inaugurated and presided over by Najma Akhtar, vice-chancellor, JMI. Akhtar lauded the initiatives taken by the CIF to organise the event on such an important subject of IPR, which is directly associated to the growth of the institution and the country.
Akhtar emphasised on the need of awareness about increasing the number of IPR for the university in the long run – a practice that will help in establishing a sustainable relation between the university and various industries. It will also encourage start-ups and entrepreneurship, she said.
A total of 653 participants including postgraduate and PhD students and faculty members registered for the workshop.
Shipra Misra, CEO and MD of CKIC-DRIIV Delhi Research Implementation and Innovation programme was the guest of honour for the workshop. She delivered the keynote address.
Several personalities with expertise in IPR attended the workshop. Lalit Ambasta, CEO of Patent Wires, and Susanta Das and Atiqullah, assistant controllers of Patents and Designs at Patent office Delhi, delivered lectures on IPR in academics. They also spoke about basic concepts and sources of IPR, including the procedure of filing patents on research, innovation and technology.
Seemi Farhat Basir, patron and dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences presented the faculty remarks which were mainly based on the importance of IPR, while Zubaida Ansari, chairperson of CIF, presented the welcoming and concluding remarks.
