A team of experts visited Kurukshetra University (KU) in Haryana on December 14 to offer advice on the curriculum for the recently introduced Japanese language courses at the varsity.
Shinjo Miyamoto, the minister for economic and development, Japan Embassy, joined the meeting virtually.
“A team of senior experts consisting of Ashok Chawla, adviser (Japan), ministry of external affairs, Government of India; Joyanto Rabha, administrator; and Ken Sobajima, programme coordinator from Japan International Cooperating Agency (JICA), visited Kurukshetra University on Monday to interact with the vice-chancellor of KU, Som Nath Sachdeva, and senior academics,” a university release said.
VC Sachdeva said the two Japanese language courses were introduced in the current academic session and are running successfully. “The team of experts was here to advise the university on curriculum development to further expand Japanese language programmes and to provide a Japanese national as an expert language teacher in future,” he said.
Sachdeva said the university will introduce Japanese, German and French language programmes in the Directorate of Distance Education in online mode from the 2022 academic session in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Manjula Choudhary, the dean of academic affairs at KU; Sanjeev Sharma, registrar; and Brajesh Sawhney, dean of Faculty of Arts and Languages; were present at the meeting with Japanese experts.
The team also visited a guest house, library, sports facilities and teaching departments of Kurukshetra University.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar was among those enrolled for a three-month online basic certificate course in Japanese culture and language started by Kurukshetra University recently.
Khattar had earlier said he had a passion for learning foreign languages from the beginning, so he has enrolled in the Japanese language course. “One should keep on improving one's skills and knowledge,” he said.
