The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) is inviting applications for courses in Engineering, Sciences, Management, Humanities and Social Sciences through the SWAYAM platform.
The programme is a joint initiative of IITs and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
The courses on offer include Data Science for Engineers, Electrical Vehicles, programming courses such as Python, Java, C and C++.
Students can also opt from a bunch of new courses — Hindustani Music, multidisciplinary courses such as Research Methodology, Basic Course in Ornithology, Oral Biology, Blockchain and its Applications, and Online Privacy, among others. Introduction to Machine Learning is offered in Tamil and Signals and Systems is offered in Hindi in this semester.
The last date of enrolment for the first semester courses is January 31, 2022.
“NPTEL has created life-changing new learning opportunities for millions of learners around the world, spearheading transformation in the field of online learning and continues to reimagine knowledge sharing to benefit learners everywhere,” said Vignesh Muthuvijayan, coordinator, NPTEL-IIT Madras.
Above 1.58 crore learners have enrolled for NPTEL courses. The optional certification exam can be taken by learners at a nominal fee to earn certificates from the IITs.

Given the greater need for virtual communication amid the ongoing pandemic, along with renewed emphasis across industries on skill development, NPTEL has become a pillar of the open education community. It is an invaluable resource to millions of learners around the world,” said Andrew Thangaraj, coordinator, NPTEL-IIT Madras.
NPTEL offers support through internships and soft skill training for students from rural India. More than 1 lakh students have benefitted from scholarships to complete the NPTEL course certification through exam fee waiver.
