The Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur (IIT Jodhpur) has completed this year’s campus placements for its postgraduate students. More than 200 companies recruited students from the institute. It recorded a significant increase in PG placements this year.
Students were recruited and offered jobs across specialisations as part of the M Tech programme. The Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) branches saw robust placements this year.
The M Tech placements this year increased by around 158 per cent compared to that in the preceding year. Due to the industry-aligned curriculum and specialised courses, the highest package offered this year has seen an increase of about 90 per cent from that in the previous year.
Highlighting the factors behind the PG placement 2021-22, Santanu Chaudhury, professor and director, IIT Jodhpur, said, “IIT Jodhpur continues its endeavour to develop programmes and course pedagogy, providing both academic rigour and industry relevance. It has, over a period of time, become one of the preferred choices for recruiters owing to inter-disciplinary and industry-aligned courses. We have been successful in placing 97 per cent of our B Tech, 75 per cent of our M Tech students and 100 per cent of our MBA students, during the current placement season.”
He further added, “IIT Jodhpur's Career Development Cell (CDC) partners with students and industry to succeed in finding life-long career fulfilment. The roles and profiles offered to students during this placement season is a testament of the diversified and relevant courses offered at IIT Jodhpur. In addition, we have successfully built coherent relationships with our campus partners and strive to improve the students’ as well as the recruiters’ experience year after year.”
This season, multiple core companies, such as Google, Mahindra & Mahindra, Samsung, L&T, Arcelor Mittal, Nippon Steel, and ICICI Bank recruited IIT Jodhpur students across various specialisations. In addition, a few new recruiters also came this year, including American Express, Deloitte, Sutherland, Royal Enfield, Maruti Suzuki, Gartner, Pickrr, Udaan, Tata Elxsi, Eeki Foods, and Lightstorm, among others.
The institute has designed a curated capability programme to prepare students for the campus placement process. Throughout the year, the CDC at IIT Jodhpur organises career development workshops, mock interviews, leadership talks, soft skill training and personality development activities.
Speaking about the placement process, Anuj Pal Kapoor, faculty in-charge, CDC at IIT Jodhpur, said, “We have witnessed a promising start post COVID-19 with regards to campus placements. The curriculum at IIT Jodhpur and the students' performance are a testament to our grit and gumption during perhaps one of the testing times. The M Tech placements have been very promising, with a myriad of industry recruiting from IIT Jodhpur across roles. We hope to record even more promising placements next year.”
Industry-oriented courses are co-developed and co-taught between faculty and industry practitioners at IIT Jodhpur, which not only help students understand the fundamentals but also help them to understand the practical nuances.
This year, CDC is working on developing capability-building programmes for all students at IIT Jodhpur. The same is being curated with the help of industry professionals, faculty members and recruitment specialists.
These programmes would offer students to choose from various workshops and resources curated per their interests and career goals. There are plans to conduct advising and coaching sessions for students, not only concerning industry but in other realms, such as civil services, research etc.
Embedded in the futuristic technology environment of IIT Jodhpur, the School of Management and Entrepreneurship (SME), an entrepreneurial venture by itself, has an adaptive curriculum that focuses on accommodating the advancements in the business landscape. SME, IITJ offers a dedicated track for MBA-Tech and the conventional MBA track.
