Dr Guru N Reddy, founder and chairman, Continental Hospitals, inaugurated a primary healthcare centre at IIT Hyderabad, making the existing makeshift centre at the institute permanent.
IITH runs a 24x7 clinic on its campus and a pharmacy in a temporary space. The institute has four permanent doctors, three contract doctors, 10 nursing staff, and a physiotherapist. In addition, IITH has tied up with Continental Hospital for regular visits of consultants in various specialisations. The institute has now built a permanent space for its clinic (G+1 building) with the support from JICA, Japan.
The guests of honour at the inauguration were BVR Mohan Reddy, chairman, Board of governors, IITH, and BS Murty, director of IITH.
IITH’s existing healthcare facility will be moved into its new premises early next month. The institute also plans to set up primary diagnostic facility support of JCI & NABH-accredited Continental Hospitals in its new facility.
“We will not only collaborate with Continental Hospitals for setting up the basic diagnostic facilities at IITH but also would like this to be extended to teleconsulting from Continental experts in various specialisations for better healthcare of the IITH fraternity,” said the institute’s director.
Talking about exploring one’s core competency, Mohan Reddy added, “As an IIT, our core competency is technology, and it delights me that IITH has partnered with entities such as DAV for school education and Continental for healthcare. This conveys the message to our students, faculty and staff that you deliver your best, rest we will take care of.”
Enlisting numerous benefits of preventative healthcare, the chief guest said that stress, habits and exercise have a significant implication on one’s health. “I appreciate that IITH has in-house counsellors to understand the various kinds of stress students and faculty may encounter, be it emotional, mental, or financial. Taking control over stress, habits, and exercise in life is the proper preventative care. We are here to work with IITH for primary healthcare needs and will do our best to provide world-class secondary care if the need be.”
Dr Aravind Kumar Rengan, faculty-in-charge (hospital), IITH, delivered the welcome address and KVL Subramaniam, dean (planning), gave the vote of thanks.
