The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati’s Technology Incubation Centre (TIC) has incubated 42 start-ups that will work in different sectors such as robotics, IT, water, oil sector, biotechnology, Machine Learning, IoT, renewable energy, home automation, and logistics, providing opportunities to entrepreneurs and young minds to explore their creativity and come up with innovations. These innovations shall be transformed into viable business propositions.
The focus of the incubation centre is to promote advancement in science and technology, traditional knowledge and biodiversity resources, facilitate a platform for entrepreneurship and incubate a research mindset for the development of society, and build an interface among researchers, technocrats, and industries.
Professor T.G. Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati, said, “IIT Guwahati, through the TIC has embarked on encouraging the students, faculty, staff and other entrepreneurs to provide necessary technical guidance and convert their ideas into products and technology that will be useful to society and make the country Atmanirbhar.”
Speaking about IIT Guwahati Technology Incubation Centre, Professor Vaibhav V. Goud, said, “IIT Guwahati TIC plays an active role in the north-eastern region by serving as a focal point of interaction between venture capitalists, financial institutions, corporates, academicians, university students, and government members." IIT Guwahati TIC ensures that incubates have access to technical assistance through mentors with multidisciplinary expertise.
IIT Guwahati’s incubation centre is approved and recognised by the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India. Grant assistance from The Technology Development Board, under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, has also been approved for start-ups. The incubation centre is open to candidates from all sectors of startups and supports them in transforming their ideas and thoughts into successful business ventures.
