The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has begun the phased reopening of its campus in full capacity from February 19.
Divided into four phases, in the first phase, all PhD/dual-degree students, including those undergoing course work and BTech/BDes final year (2018 batch) and earlier batches will join between February 19 and March 10. Meanwhile, the MA/MSc/MTech/MDes/MS final-year (2020 batch) students and earlier batches will be joining in the second phase between February 23 and March 10. In the third phase, MA/MSc/MTech/MDes/MS first-year (2021 batch) students will join February 28 and March 10.
In the fourth and final phase, BTech/BDes third and second-year classes (2019 and 2020 batches) and BTech/BDes first-year (2021 batch) classes will resume from March 14 and March 28. Students are arriving at the campus on the given schedule.
The institute will be allowing only those students who are eligible for registration for the current semester. Students have been asked to fill in their arrival details on the return portal before coming to the campus as per their schedule.
Returning students are recommended to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. They must also produce their vaccination certificates on arrival. According to the institute, if a student develops any symptom during their stay, he/she should inform the medical section, get tested, and undergo isolation as per the protocol.
IIT Guwahati has also set-up on-campus testing, isolation, and vaccination facilities. The medical section of the institute follows the standard protocols for Covid-19 care and treatment.
In a communique, the institute has stated that students are enthusiastic about returning to the campus and starting in-person learning. IIT Guwahati has developed methods to uphold academic excellence during digital learning. However, on-campus learning and interaction with peers seem essential for the students’ overall development and mental health.
