The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) Delhi, Bombay and Kanpur and the administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh have collaborated with each other to offer internship programmes and sponsored M Tech programmes to students from Ladakh.
The last date to apply to the three institutes is June 30.
This initiative has been launched to enhance opportunities for students from Ladakh who are currently pursuing an undergraduate course in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) subjects.
This effort has been taken in consonance with the efforts by the three IITs to help the administration of Union Territory of Ladakh to set up an engineering college in the Union Territory.
Speaking about the opportunities being offered to the students from Ladakh, Shantanu Roy, dean academics, IIT Delhi and coordinator for the programme, said, “Colleagues from all three IITs have come together for this effort to enhance the interest level and opportunities amongst students from Ladakh in STEM subjects. We hope this joint effort of the IITs would help enhance the skilled manpower in the UT in STEM subjects."
The three IITs are offering the following specific opportunities:
• Short-term internships for undergraduate students (one-and-a-half to two months duration)
• Long-term internships for undergraduate students (six months duration)
• Sponsored M Tech programmes (two years duration)
Thirty seats are available at the three IITs for the short-term internship, 15 seats for long-term internship and 12 seats for the M Tech programmes.
Students opting for the short-term internship would be selected on the basis of their application. However, for the long-term internship and M Tech, the selection would be on the basis of application as well an online interview.
The students selected for the short-term and long-term internships would be paid a consolidated scholarships of Rs 15,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively. The students selected for the M Tech programmes would be paid a scholarship of Rs 25,000 per month.
