The Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode inaugurated the Centre for Digital Innovation and Transformation (CDiT) at a virtual event on December 18. Padma Bhushan awardee and co-founder of Infosys Kris Gopalakrishnan was the chief guest for the inaugural function with IIMK director Debashis Chatterjee.
Gopalakrishnan congratulated IIM Kozhikode for the initiative and wished that the industry emerges as an active participant in the activities of this centre as it brings together academic and industry activities. He said, “The growth model of this century will be founded on innovation and not on consumption. India will lead the world in innovation in the 21st century and this is bound to be India’s century.”
The director IIM Kozhikode and patron of the centre, Debashis Chatterjee said, “Sustainability should be at the core of all transformation and the world today is moving from consumption to innovation and from producing to caring. The sheer scale, scope and potential impact that India will have on 21st century business makes IIMK’s Vision 2047 of globalising Indian thought a worthwhile aspiration.”
IIM Kozhikode has excellence in digital outreach. It was the first business school in Asia to conduct programmes for working executives through satellite delivery systems called Interactive Distance Learning (IDL) mode in 2001, and later through dedicated internet. IIM Kozhikode’s Centre for Digital Innovation and Transformation will be promoting and coordinating interdisciplinary research in emerging digital technologies. It will be relevant for organisations, government and society in general as said by R Radhakrishna Pillai, head CDiT.
The centre aims to develop expertise in the emerging areas of digital technology and their applications in organizations, government initiatives and society.
It will be facilitating the digitisation and the digital transformation of IIMK. The centre will also support and empower the society by the use of digital technology.
The focus areas of emerging technologies that the centre will be engaging with includes Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Internet of Things, Analytics, Digital e-governance, Digital Economy, Digital strategy, Cyber Security, Green IT, Digital Payments, E-Commerce, Augmented and Virtual Reality and Digital Health.
The academic activities will include preparation of teaching materials including working papers, real life case studies and research publications, collaborative projects and programs in specific areas, joint research with organisations and experimentation of new ideas.
There will also be research in specific areas like AI, ML, Analytics, Cyber Security, Digital Health, Digital Payments etc. Design innovative new courses and programs in emerging areas.
