The Sattvik Council of India (SCI), an independent food safety and regulatory body for vegetarians, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bhubaneswar-based Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) to start India’s first Sattvik Centre of Excellence at the institute.

Under this MoU, the students will be able to pursue courses on Vegetarian Tourism & Catering Management and Sattvik Auditor and Lead Auditor.

The MoU was signed by the two organisations in the presence of SCI founder Abhishek Biswas, state coordinator of Odisha SCI Satyanarayan Mohapatra and IHM Bhubaneswar’s principal Sharada Gosh.

The student community will be benefitted by the initiative, which will give them an option to pursue their degree in vegetarian speciality, IHM stated in a press communique.

Biswas said, “SCI always envisioned transforming certification into education and training from the start. It’s a remarkable day in the history of both the organisations as we open our gateway to Sattvik Centre of Excellence with IHM Bhubaneswar.”

Students will be able to pursue courses in specialised vegetarian programmes in hospitality or management through IHM In Bhubaneshwar and also secure jobs in the field. The institute claims to constantly improve academic administration and curriculum through involvement of subject-matter specialists from both the organisations.

SCI is a non-profit organisation which functions as a vegetarian food and lifestyle standard development body established with an objective to promote the certification of vegetarian food.

State coordinator of Odisha SCI, Satyanarayan Mohapatra, said, “This was an important step that was needed. Even though I respect all food choices, we cannot disregard courses in vegetarian management or auditor. We are facing huge unemployment after the pandemic. Now the students will be able to earn a dispensable income after the completion of the course.”
