More than 7 lakh Class XII students appeared for their first paper of West Bengal Higher Secondary Examination (WBCHSE) across West Bengal amid strict COVID-induced restrictions on April 2.

According to the WBCHSE board, strict invigilation was deployed on the first day of exam and the same will be maintained for rest of the papers.

The HS examinations were held after a year’s gap. The 2020 examinations began before the pandemic but had to be scrapped midway because of the novel coronavirus outbreak. In 2021, the exams were cancelled owing to the second wave of COVID-19. Students of both the batches were marked on the basis of their performances in the previous years.

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee extended her best wishes to the HS examinees on April 2. She took to microblogging site Twitter to share a word of advice for the students.

“Heartiest greetings and best wishes to students appearing in Higher Secondary Examination, 2022. Stay focused and calm, you will certainly achieve success. Appeal to all to extend cooperation for smooth conduct of this big exercise,” the chief minister tweeted.

Kolkata Traffic Police had also taken several actions to ensure smooth traffic and hassle-free conveyance for the candidates.
