With board exams around the corner, tension and worry often cloud students’ minds. Frenetic last-minute revision and frequent all-nighters may take a toll on health. Abishek Kumar Yadav, the academic director of Griffins International School, shares five tips for students to balance their health and studies in the run-up to exams.
Don’t mess with your body clock
Keeping your body clock aligned is very important for your health. We have seen students falling ill in the examination hall when they pull an all-nighter just before the exam. If you are someone who stays awake all night to study, then don’t do it a day before the exam. Eight hours of sleep is must the night before the exam. You must feel fresh when you go for your exam. If you are drowsy, you won’t be able to write your answers properly. Don’t take the risk!
Practise more realistically
Practise a lot of writing. Solving question papers in the last few days can boost your confidence. Time yourself while solving the papers. This will help you to finish your exam on time. Practise writing with the pen you will be using for your actual examination day. Also, using the same kind of paper can also be very helpful. All this will reduce the unknown possibilities that may occur on the actual exam day. There is no alternative to practice.
Reach the examination centre a little early
If you have a home centre, then nothing like it. But if not, then reach early and explore the place. You should know where to sit, which room to go to, where the washroom is in advance. Keep your mind calm and focused.
Finish your paper on time
If you can finish your paper 10 minutes in advance, you will have enough time to revise your paper for silly mistakes. In many instances, student might lose marks because of mindless errors that could have been corrected during revision. It may happen that you missed a word or two, made a spelling error or made a mistake in the numbering while writing hurriedly. Also, if you finish your paper a little early, you might have time to think over the tricky questions and the ones you couldn’t attempt. So, if you have a one-and-half-hour paper, try to finish within an hour and 20 minutes. Revise and check for corrections before finally submitting it.
Clear all your doubts before the exam
If you still have doubts in some portions, get them cleared by your teachers. Sometimes, students know what they don’t understand but think they will manager it somehow. Don’t do this. I am sure your teachers will be happy to explain something to you if you ask them. Don’t hesitate because full preparation increases your chance to score more. Lastly, don’t take unnecessary stress and give your best.
