FORE School of Management, New Delhi has collaborated with Australia’s Deakin University to organise a webinar on ‘Industry-University partnerships for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations’, focusing on internships in Australia and India.

The webinar hosted on January 8 was part of a project funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Commonwealth Government of Australia, and was held with an aim to generate industry and university partnerships through workshops in both the nations, developing a digital hub for the sharing of knowledge.

Shallini Taneja, faculty and head of the Centre for Sustainable Development (CSD), FORE School of Management, welcomed all the panellists from industry and academia, students and participants to the international webinar which aimed to improve employability of graduates in both countries and improve SDG outcomes.

The webinar explained in detail about statements of purpose for internships, structure, opportunities, cross-cultural and cross-border learnings as well as challenges while generating internships through partnerships for SDGs.

FORE director Jitendra K Das welcomed the dignitaries, reiterating the management institute’s aim behind the collaboration on SDGs as an attempt to propagate the principles of SDG in the younger generation; enable students in India and Australia to develop work-ready skills; enhance employability skills and opportunity; analyse and solve real-world problems; strengthen professional network across the borders; and contribute to the well-being of the planet. According to him, a business school must act as a lead for sustainable development of business.

Ameeta Jain, a senior lecturer at Deakin University, Australia, was the project head for this initiative, along with Deakin University project co-lead Harsh Suri. They briefed the virtual audience on the project, stating the aims as improving employability opportunities for graduates in both countries; having a vibrant online community of practice that will foster long-term bilateral collaborative partnerships between industry and universities; and to develop an online hub to foster ongoing collaboration.

Suri shared the road map of the project and moderated the panel discussion with Jain. The panellists included Paroksh Prasad, first secretary, Australian High Commission in India; Anish Kohli, director and head of Service Provider Business, an Australian Telecom MNC; G Ravindra, head-marketing and business development department of Toshiba, JSW Power System Pvt. Ltd, Chennai; Seema Sahai, CEO of Mobile Creches, New Delhi; Chitra A, CSR Head, Indus Towers Limited, Gurugram; Mansingh Jaswal, director and CEO, Genex Logistics, India; and Virendra Kumar Paul, HoD and professor of Building Engineering & Management, School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi.
