DU Admissions 2022: First cut-off list for UG courses out today; drop in foreign student applications

Delhi University will be releasing the first cut-off list for UG courses today, 19 October 2022 The admissions will be based on the newly introduced CUET 2022. The cut-off list is scheduled to be out at 5 pm, candidates can log on to the official website– du.ac.in to check.

The candidate must accept an allocated seat before the deadline stated in the allocation round for which the seat has been allocated. Allocated seats may be accepted only during the round in which they were allocated.

However, candidates must note, a lack of activity or no action will be considered a refusal to accept the allocated seat. CSAS-2022 will consider it a decline and the candidate will be unable to participate in subsequent rounds.

Delhi University has admitted 520 foreign students across undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. courses this academic season, a decline of over 27.5 percent from the previous year. The maximum number of students this year is from Nepal (110), followed by Tibet (100) and Bangladesh (85).

A university official attributed the decline in the number of admissions by foreign students to the delay in the start of the academic session. The number of applications from foreign nationals has also dipped this year by over 28 percent.

"The university received application forms from over 7,000 applicants this year. Last year, the varsity received over 9,000 applications," Professor Amarjiva Lochan, Jt Dean, International Relations, told PTI. This year, the maximum number of applications are from Nepal. Last year, it was from Afghan nationals. The admission process started in March and it was over in the middle of July. "As many as 1,500 students were selected for admission. Out of them, only 520 have confirmed their admission and are coming to Delhi. In UG courses, 320 students have taken admission, and in PG and Ph.D. courses, 100 students and 50 students respectively have got admission in DU colleges," Lochan said.

"Most of the colleges in North Campus have hostels and the majority of the classes in these colleges are done in English, that is why students prefer North Campus colleges," Lochan noted. When asked about the reason for the decline in application numbers from foreign nationals, Lochan said, "There has been a delay in academic session this year due to several reasons. That is why we have received fewer applications", he added.
