Researchers at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, are attending a seven-day training programme on 'Application of Sophisticated Instruments in Chemistry, Biology and Material Sciences'.
The training is being conducted by Amity University Uttar Pradesh (AUUP) from June 28 to July 4 under the aegis of the Department of Science & Technology (DST) STUTI programme.
AUUP has been awarded the STUTI programme as a Project Management Unit (PMU) by the DST to conduct seven days of residential hands-on training on the state-of-the-art equipment, fully sponsored by DST.
A group of 30 researchers have been selected for this training programme. The objective is to build human resource and its knowledge capacity through open access to S & T infrastructure across the country by conducting hands-on training programmes. These programmes will help in enhancing awareness of use, application and sharing of state-of-the-art equipment, while ensuring transparent access to S&T facilities funded by DST.
“The training programme will be highly beneficial for all the participants as they will receive hands-on training of the S&T facilities provided by DST STUTI,” said S.B. Prasad, dean of Life Sciences, NEHU.
NEHU has shared a long-standing relationship with Amity and both universities share the same synergies, based on research and innovation. Collaboration is very important for any institution, and it is only through collaboration that knowledge and skill sets can be enhanced and developed.
"NEHU would like to collaborate with Amity in other areas as well and sign MoUs in future which will lead to many successful partnerships in the domain of education,” Prasaid said.
The training programme has been organised for postgraduate students, research scholars, faculty members from universities/colleges, scientists, and post-doctoral researchers who are working in multidisciplinary/ transdisciplinary and translational research in various organisations, to enhance their practical skills and knowledge.
Nutan Kaushik, director-general, Amity Food and Agriculture Foundation, AUUP, said, “Through this training programme, the participants will get an opportunity to discover state-of-the art R&D infrastructure and facilities funded by DST and held by various R&D institutions / universities in the country. They will also get hands-on experience of research and will be able to connect with the R&D organisations / universities / private sector facilities /start-ups/ MSMEs involved in research & development. By collaborating with NEHU, which is one of the most prestigious Central universities in the country, path-breaking research can be carried out which will lead to the development of the country.”
The inaugural programme concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Anjali Haloi, Sophisticated Analytical Instrument Facility (SAIF), NEHU and was attended by the researchers, scholars and faculty members in large numbers. During the seven-day programme, training will be provided about various instruments, including 'Time Resolved Fluorescence Spectroscopy', 'Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)' and 'Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM)', amongst others.
TS Basu Baul, chairman, STUTI programme and head, Department of Chemistry & SAIF-NEHU, averred, “The training programme holds special significance since it has been directly sponsored by DST and the researchers will benefit immensely from this by learning the use of the latest, state-of-the-art S&T equipment which will be very helpful in carrying out their research smoothly."
