Digital University Kerala (DUK) has conducted a successful campus recruitment drive online despite the constraints of the pandemic, with 90% of eligible students from the 2019-21 batch of MSc Computer Science getting placed at leading IT companies in the country.
The campus placements for the 2022 batch have also begun, according to an official statement from the university. The MSc courses of DUK offer specialisations in Machine Intelligence, Data Analytics, Cyber Security and Geospatial Analytics, the statement added.
The hiring trends show the demand for skills in these emerging areas, with freshers being recruited for specialist roles such as Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Digital Media Analyst, Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML) Engineer, Associate Engineer-GIS, Associate-Cyber Security Analyst and Cyber Associate Security Engineer among others. Even the internships are in the domains of Data Analytics, AI and ML, said the DUK statement.
Some of the leading firms associated with DUK for the recruitment drive include Caterpillar, TCS, Deloitte, Tata Elxsi, H&R Block, Ernst and Young, Cognizant, Primera Technologies, Earth Analytics India, UST Global, ABB, Number Theory, Dexlock, TROIS Infotech and Strava Technologies among others.
The average pay packages bagged by selected candidates range from Rs 4.5 lakh to Rs 11.6 lakh per annum, clearly showing that the online recruitment drive did not hamper the hiring numbers.
DUK vice-chancellor Saji Gopinath said all the recruiting companies were looking for specialist roles, proof of the growing demand for candidates trained in the latest technologies.
Apart from the placements, students in their final semesters got opportunities to work on live projects in leading R&D organisations such as Space Applications Centre of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), TERI University, Kerala Soil Survey department, National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC), National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS) and Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM).
These projects gave students opportunities to work in real-world projects while earning a stipend that would well cover their semester fees. Apart from offering unique courses, DUK also regularly conducts employment oriented training sessions for students to improve on their soft skills for recruitment drives and interviews. The university expects to resume offline campus placements soon.
