Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan wished the nation on the eve of Diwali and urged citizens to join the mass movement called 'VidyaDaan' by contributing to its initiative 'Vidyanjali'.
Pradhan said the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has given people the opportunity to focus on the spirit of sharing knowledge and expertise through "Vidyanjali". "On such auspicious occasions, we celebrate the joy of 'giving' and 'daan' is the practice of cultivating generosity," he added.
Talking about 'VidyaDaan', Pradhan, in a video message, said, "We all have certain expertise, skill and knowledge, which we can share with others. There's no better joy of giving, than giving that to our future generations."
He urged everyone to support the initiative to ensure quality education to the children across the country.
"We want to develop Vidyanjali in such a way that everyone can contribute to school education in some way or the other. I hope citizens from all walks of life will join this mass movement of 'vidya daan'," he further said.
'VidyaDaan', the national programme, is a call to the nation, particularly individuals and organisations across the nation, to contribute e-learning resources in the education sector to ensure that quality learning continues for students. Contributions can be made by individuals, subject experts, teachers, educationists, schools, government and non-government organisations etc after registering and nominating themselves.
Different types of content including explanation videos, teaching videos, practice questions, competency-based items, lesson plans etc. for any grade from Class I to XII and for any subject as specified by the States/UTs under their respective projects can be contributed under the initiative. Such contributions shall be curated by the respective states/UTs & CBSE and those contributors whose content is accepted and finds high usage, will be duly recognised.
'Vidyanjali' is an initiative taken by the ministry of education, which aims to strengthen schools through community and private sector involvement. The initiative would help to connect schools with varied volunteers from the Indian diaspora namely, young professionals, school alumni, in service and retired teachers and government officials.
