Students at The Design Village create personalised clay tiles as graduation souvenirs for the outgoing batch.
The tiles with the students’ credentials imprinted on them serve as a lifelong reminder of their journey at The Design Village.
The unique tradition celebrates the art of Process Design with innovation and ingenuity.
The annual tradition involves a step-by-step making of the tablet designed by mentors and students. The mentor and facilitator explain to the students the process and the challenges faced while creating these artefacts and how the challenges are resolved.
“This process of creating these artefacts has often been laborious, with several trial-and-error stages to get the desired precision and quality. The crux of the problem is the occurrence of warpage, cracks or air bubbles in the materials,” said Mohan Kumar Verma, mentor and facilitator at The Design Village.
Verma, also being a faculty member working on this project, solved the existing limitations by designing a new contraption by repurposing used gym equipment. This new tile-pressing contraption has been a moment of innovation for The Design Village.
The process was executed in collaboration with facilities around Delhi NCR.
