The lack of guidance is creating confusion among parents and students

The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is around the corner and the stress amongst the students is reaching new levels each day. Aspirants have been complaining about the lack of time to prepare for the exams, as well as confusion about the examination centers ever since the admit cards have been made available on the 11 July 2022.

"On Monday, only our admit cards came. Many of us have been given three days to prepare for the most important examination of our life," said Himanshu (16), a Common University Entrance Test (CUET) aspirant.

The debut exams of CUET are scheduled to start from July 15 and continue till August 10. However, students have also been particularly vocal about not being satisfied with the date sheet that has been released. For many students, multiple papers are scheduled on the same day or very close to each other.

On the other hand, students feel that a few candidates are getting an “unfair” advantage as their papers are more comfortably spaced out and they will get ample time to prepare for their exams.

As per the statement issued by the National Testing Agency (NTA), "Advance intimation slips for the examination city to all candidates with the date of the examination and the city of the examination are being issued. The City Intimation Slip for each candidate has information relating to the subjects, language and medium offered in Slot 1 and Slot 2 as well as the date and the city allotted". On Monday, the University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar had also said that at least 98 per cent of the students appearing for the CUET will be given exam centres in the cities of their preference.

But candidates allege that there is no clarity regarding the examination centres as the "city intimation slip" only mentions the city's name, not that of the centre. Moreover, concerns have also been voiced about change in exam centre. "It is written on the website that the examination city can also be changed in case of a large number of students. There is a lot of uncertainty," added Himanshu.

Another issue that several candidates have taken up on Twitter is missing exam centre and time details on issued hall ticket. Sharing pictures of their admit cards, students have requested NTA to fix the error while also expressing severe distress.

The CUET is a centralised common entrance test for admission to undergraduate programmes in over 90 universities of the country, including the Delhi University.
