The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has started a special drive for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for teachers from CBSE-affiliated government and government-aided schools in line with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020).
The new education policy recommended that every school should ensure the participation of all its teachers in at least 50 hours of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
“As also mandated in CBSE Bye-laws, each teacher is expected to participate in at least 25 hours of training programs conducted by the Board in a year and rest from other sources to be arranged by Education Departments of concerned States/UTs,” the CBSE Board said in its latest circular.
The board has set up 16 Centers of Excellence across the country with focus on in-service training of teachers. The teachers training is conducted under two categories - generic and subject specific.
“There are 23 training courses aligned with Classes 10 and 12 subjects while there are 22 generic courses ranging from adolescent education programme, art integration, inclusive education, happy classrooms, cyber safety and security and more,” the board said.
The CBSE set up a high-powered committee to advise providing quality training to teachers as the number of government, government-aided and public-private partnership schools getting affiliated with CBSE is increasing.
124 secondary and senior secondary government schools in Ladakh, Union Territory and 1,000 government schools in Andhra Pradesh have been affiliated with CBSE recently. As per the committee’s recommendation, the board has agreed to provide training programmes from the beginning of April 2023 to all such teachers.
“Each state, UT will develop a centralized annual training calendar beginning from April to March with their specific requirements for training. It will be ensured that each government teacher receives a minimum of 25 hours training organized by the Board, state government or government/ Regional Teacher’s Training Institutions and remaining 25 hours of CPD shall be arranged by the school itself,” the CBSE added.
