"Self-belief and hard work will always bring you success" - The words of Virat Kohli have been echoing through the mind and ears of Sayandip Chaudhuri ever since he started preparing for the Common Admission Test (CAT) from his college days.

A brilliant student since childhood, Sayandip took up B.Tech at IIT Pallakad following his board exams and nurtured the dream of getting into one of the top 5 IIMs in the country.

This was Sayandip's second attempt at the CAT. With this brilliant result, this year, he has secured the top rank from West Bengal. Last year, he also scored a brilliant 99.49 percentile in the exam. However, he was unable to achieve his dream of getting into the top 5 IIMs.

"I took a drop and gave in my best. I was confident of getting a good percentage to get into the top 5, but a 99.99 percentile came off as a surprise," he said.

A resident of Bankura District of West Bengal, Sayandip let go of lucrative placement offers from his alma mater to focus mainly on CAT and work on his aim to secure admission at his desired college.

Sharing his preparation strategy with The Telegraph Online Edugraph, Sayandip said that he had devoted nearly 11-12 hours a day towards his perparation and focussed mainly on mock tests and holds them the key to his success.

"Mock tests were my main focus as I had already appeared in the examination last year. I needed to increase my speed, and hence I started solving the test papers diligiently," he said.

"Since mathematics was my strongest part, I practiced it more and more to extract the maximum marks out of it. Also, to improve my english language skills I started reading a lot, mainly newspapers and tried to solve more and more questions," he added.

The journey has not been an easy one for the 22-year-old. Just a month before the examination, his father, Dr Sandip Chaudhuri was diagonised with cancer and is currently ungoing treatment.

"This year I had to go through a lot of struggle. Especially the last two months before the examination have been really tough for me as my father was diagonsed with cancer in the month of september. Hence, I had to stay at my relative's house and continue with my preparations," he added.

Sayandip wishes to take up MBA in Finance from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta and is hopeful of getting through the interview process. He has dedicated his success to his parents and teachers who have guided him throughout his entire journey.
