Banaras Hindu University (BHU) resumed offline classes with second-year and some first-year students returning to the campus on February 21.
Many of the students who attended classes on campus on the opening day had only been to the university only once or twice. Excited chatter filled the campus as friends met other after long and students interacted with teachers. The process of hostel allotment is underway. Students will be allocated rooms on double-occupancy basis.
Classes for final-year and PhD began earlier.
The decision to reopen the campus was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by BHU vice-chancellor Sudhir K. Jain. The meeting was attended by directors of institutes, deans of faculties and senior officials of the university.
All classes of the Institute of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Faculty of Management Studies, and Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development are being conducted in offline mode. At the Institute of Science, Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences, Law, Education, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Commerce, SVDV and MMV all the classes except those of first year will be conducted offline. First-year classes will continue online for now.
The situation will be reviewed and a decision taken on examinations soon.
