Amazon Web Services has announced four free initiatives for educating learners with cloud computing skills on November 18. The four announcements include the launching of AWS Skill Builder, addition of Aws courses to the Amazon website, expansion of re/Start Global Reskilling programme and opening of AWS Skills Centre.
In December 2020, Amazon committed to investing towards providing free cloud computing skills training to 29 million people across 200 countries and territories by 2025. Already, about 6 million people have been skilled with cloud computing.
A survey by AWS Global Digital Skills Study conducted among the employers and employees of 12 countries show that 85% feel the need for digital skills training is more important than ever.
Maureen Lonergan, vice-president of training and certification at AWS, “Our goal is to empower anyone with a desire to learn by giving them access to the tools necessary to excel in cloud computing careers. Over the next decade, we expect the adoption of cloud computing across every industry will fuel a vast number of new jobs, which is why we are investing hundreds of millions of dollars to develop online courses, local in-person reskilling programs, and new ways to make it easy for anyone to learn cloud skills.”
AWS Skill Builder will boost availability of the latest technology skills curriculum. It is a new digital learning tool available in 200+ countries. It offers more than 500 free highly in demand courses including 60 latest cloud computing classes that were added in the current year.
AWS is also expanding training and job opportunities for unemployed and under-employed persons. AWS re/Start is now available in 95 cities in 38 countries. It is a free, full-time 12-week long programme for people with little or no computing skills.
Amazon has also launched its first in-person cloud learning space, AWS Skills Centre in Seattle. The centre has interactive exhibits on space, robotics, games, sports and other cloud computing real-world applications. The skill centre will hold classes on introduction to computer technology, cloud practitioner essentials, exam readiness, preparing candidates for AWS Cloud Practitioner Certificate exam and other courses.
