On Friday, Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced that by 2023, more than 30 lakh members of the federal and state governments would receive training and exposure to cutting-edge technologies like blockchain, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI).
Along with the Wadhwani Institute of Technology and Policy (WITP) and the Capacity Building Commission, he claimed there are 25 central training institutions, 33 state-level administrative training institutions, and other civil service training institutions that will work together to accomplish this noble goal.
The Minister of State for Personnel, Singh, stated that data-driven decision-making through the use of analytics, blockchain for safeguarding records and certificates, and artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning could detect fraud in GST and income tax returns.
He believed that soon, similar methods would be used in administration and daily work by civil servants.
According to Singh, the usage of technology in governance has played a significant role in India's growth story under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He cited a few examples of technology adoption, including the use of Aadhaar for vaccine rollout and vaccine delivery via drones in challenging terrain, or the JAM trinity, which links Indians' Jan Dhan accounts, mobile numbers, and Aadhaar cards to stop the leakage of government subsidies through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
At a two-day workshop on "Emerging Technology for Good Governance" for heads of Central Training Institutions (CTIs) and State level Administrative Training Institutions (ATIs) at the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) here, the minister made this statement in his closing remarks.
He said that one must constantly be on the lookout for fresh scientific knowledge that can advance efforts and results while remaining open to emerging trends in science and technology.
According to Singh, Prime Minister Modi has infused technology with innovation into the government.
He emphasised that for a country as huge and diverse as India, the adoption of technology is very important to ensure that government has a wide reach. He claimed that it is fairly obvious that in times of uncertainty and shifting governance concerns, technology is and will be the go-to resource.
Regarding the education of technology, Singh noted that both the nation and its people are advancing quickly.
