It emerged after the death of a first-year undergraduate student last year following alleged ragging in the Jadavpur University main hostel that many former students were staying in the hostel.

Police arrested Sourav Chowdhury, a former student of the university, because he was the alleged “mastermind” of the incident that led to the death of the 17-year-old student on August 10.

The notice says final-year outgoing boarders are directed to vacate the hostel following the rules.
