Music can open many doors to the future qI am in Class XI and have taken humanities. I want to be a musician. I sing well and play the guitar, but I am still deciding what to do in this field. What are the career paths for musicians in India? What should I study in college?

If you have a talent for singing and playing the guitar, there are many career paths open to you. One such option is becoming a performer and recording artiste. You can showcase your talent through live concerts and studio recordings, whether you perform solo or as part of a band. You can also explore composing or songwriting. Another avenue open to you is a career in music education. This may involve conducting workshops or teaching at music schools, colleges or universities. Alternatively, you can consider music production and engineering, where you would shape the sound and production of musical tracks. As a music producer or engineer, you would work with artists in recording studios to help them achieve their artistic vision and produce high quality recordings.

In India, colleges offer bachelor’s degrees in music and related fields. Consider specialising in areas of interest that align with your career goals, such as vocal performance, guitar studies, songwriting or music production.
