The higher education department has asked colleges and universities to receive application forms from July 1 for the four-year undergraduate programme through the online portal of the respective institutions.
The department recently announced that the proposed centralised online admission system, which was to be rolled out in the 2023-24 academic year, would not be introduced in the forthcoming session.

An official in the department said undergraduate aspirants will apply in accordance with the eligibility criteria set by individual institutions and enter the best-four scores in the plus-II exams and the marks in the subject in which an applicant wants to study honours.
Scanned mark sheets will have to be attached to the applications.
After verifying the scores, each college or unitary university will draw up a merit list and upload it on its website. The lists have to be published by July 20.
The admission process will have to be completed by July 31 and undergraduate classes will start on August 1.
“Beyond this schedule, willing higher education institutions may reopen their admission portals for another two phases, if required, subject to availability of seats at the institutional level. But it is advised that the entire process of admissions at the UG level be completed by July 31,” the notification says.
“Prospective students should not be called for counselling or verification of documents during the process of admission. No physical presence will be required at the institutions,” the notification says.
The candidates have to upload all required testimonials along with the applications. “Verification of documents, if required, should be done only when the students report for classes in due courses. Admission will be cancelled if documents are found to be not in conformity with the declaration in the forms submitted online,” the notification says.
Details of the admission process were announced three days after education minister Bratya Basu said the online centralised admission system would not be introduced in the forthcoming session.
“The centralised admission portal, which has been developed based on the existing three-years degree UG programme, shall have to undergo modifications regarding the institutional level admission rules/subject combinations… across the state. In view of the time constraints required for such modifications in the portal and the preparedness of the universities to implement the NCCF (National Curriculum and Credit Framework)… it is hereby informed that admission to undergraduate programme in the state-funded higher education institutions shall be made online in standalone mode,” says a notification by the department.
The department had on Wednesday clarified that it would introduce the four-year undergraduate programme from the 2023-24 academic year, replacing the three-year one, in compliance with the NCCF.
