M.C. Kejriwal Vidyapeeth
M.C. Kejriwal Vidyapeeth (MCKV) celebrated Children’s Day on November 14 with a delightful mix of activities, games and surprises for all its students.
The day began with a special assembly where teachers took centre stage, delivering a heartfelt blend of performances. From singing a medley of songs such as Haste Haste Kat Jaaye Raste, Aaj Main Upar and Papa Kehte Hain, to reciting poetry and sharing moving speeches, their efforts left the students enthralled.
Headmaster Biswajit Majumdar addressed the gathering, emphasising the importance of education and the role of school in shaping a child’s future.
For the youngest learners (Pre-nursery to Class II), the day was packed with fun rides, games and class parties. Animated classics such as Donald Duck and Chip and Dale were screened for Class I students, while Class II children enjoyed the timeless favourite, The Lion King.
Classes III and IV were treated to a magic show, alongside screenings of films such as Finding Nemo and Coco. Meanwhile, Class V students unleashed their creativity with bookmarks, posters and mask-making activities.
Class VI had their imaginations sparked by a Science Magic Show, where teachers brought scientific concepts to life through engaging
experiments.
For Classes VII and VIII, teachers put on a cultural extravaganza, performing dances, songs and a skit, which was followed by a movie screening and grand class party.
Senior students of Classes X and XII also joined the celebrations, enjoying a cultural programme organised especially for them.
"Children’s Day is most-awaited in our school calendar as it celebrates and promotes the rights and well-being of our students. Students look forward to their special day. B.D. Memorial Jr. School
Teachers and students of B.D. Memorial Jr. School celebrated Children’s Day with music, games, and a hearty dose of fun.
The day was packed with lively activities, starting with teachers showcasing their dancing skills to Bhangra, Bihu and popular Bengali songs such as Kome Ki Nokome and Istishaner Railgarita. Their performances had the young audience clapping and cheering in delight.
A Food Mela added to the excitement, offering a spread of cakes, sandwiches and healthy snacks for the little ones. Students also took part in a non-fire cooking activity, sparking their creativity in the kitchen.
Adding to the merriment was the segment dubbed Clown Town, where teachers dressed up as clowns to entertain the children with their antics and vibrant costumes.
Games such as blindfolded object-guessing kept the kids engaged, while a dance session had them grooving to popular tunes. The highlight was the warmth and camaraderie shared between students and teachers.
The event wrapped up with gifts for every child, a perfect end to a day filled with joy and laughter.
“The event was a heartfelt reminder of the essence of Children’s Day — a time to celebrate joy, happiness and the unique bond between students and teachers. This year’s programme left an indelible mark on everyone, making Children’s Day special for all,” said director and principal Suman Sood.

Contai Public School
Contai Public School celebrated scientific curiosity and innovation with its 11th science festival, The Scientists Programme 2024, held on October 5 and 6.
The two-day event, organised by the school’s Science Club, featured activities, including quizzes, interactive games and exhibits of innovative projects focused on artificial intelligence and robotics.
The festival was inaugurated at the school’s Silver Jubilee Hall by astrophysicist Debiprosad Duari in the presence of academics, members of the school’s managing committee and representatives from the Egra Organisation for the Cultivation of Science and Contai Science Academy.
In his keynote address, Duari delved into India’s space journey with his talk, Indian Space Odyssey. Highlighting milestones such as the Chandrayaan-3 mission, he said: “Through this festival, we hope to empower our young scientists to explore, experiment and push boundaries, transforming them into leaders and innovators of tomorrow to build our nation.”
The second day featured Pradipta Panchadhayee, associate professor of physics at P.K. College, Contai, as the guest speaker. He praised the students’ projects and emphasised the relevance of science in everyday life.
The festival offered students a platform to explore potential careers. Interactive quizzes added to the excitement and learning. This year, two new categories were introduced — Innovative Teaching in Science and Working Models Using Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.
Principal Samarendranath Das said: "The science festival, organised by the science club, crossed its 10th year, and we were honoured to welcome some of the leading scientists. They inspired our students and gave them a goal."
On the sports field
Julien Day School, Howrah
The 18th Inter-House Annual Athletic Meet of Julien Day School, Howrah, was held on November 6 at Sailen Manna Stadium, bringing together students from Classes III to XII for an action-packed day of track and field events.
The event was graced by chief guest S.E. Broughton, managing trustee of Julien Day School, alongside J.G. Broughton, chairman of the Julien Day School Group, board trustee Joshua Broughton, marketing head Jessica Broughton, director of education and development Terence John, principal Maryann Thorpe Smith and vice-principal Cheryl Sampayo. Students competed under four house banners — Gunners (red), Magpies (green), Socceroos (yellow) and Les Bleus (blue) — in events, including the 4x100m relay, sprint races and other track events. The meet also featured a drill performance and a march past.
The highlight of the meet was the record-breaking performances by several athletes. Gunners House emerged as the trophy winners for the day, while Socceroos House clinched the overall championship title. Special awards were presented to students for outstanding achievements.
"Sports are an integral part of the curriculum. It helps shape a child’s personality and contributes to their holistic development. Sports impart values that help students cruise through life," said the principal.
