On the Role of Teachers: Fr. Bikash Mondal

Fr. Bikash Mondal of Don Bosco, Park Circus, shares his views with us on Teachers’ Day. In his succinctly written piece, he highlights the newness in education, especially post-pandemic, but then goes on to remind aspiring and experienced teachers of their immense power to encourage, influence and shape the children in their care.

Being an educationist in India for many years, I have been able to witness a change and growth in the education system, which even if slow and almost insignificant, is still very much prevalent.

As our country has major socio-economic differences, limitations exist to having a uniform upgrade in the education system.

Having said this, I can also confidently say that the need and importance of education are recognized by all in both the rural and urban societies of our country. And that in itself is a step in the right direction.

From my perspective, I see a bright future of education, with the introduction and utilization of more technology-enhanced learning, which would definitely lead to a more in-depth and better understanding of a subject than ever before.

However, no matter how much technology we have in place, we just CANNOT negate the role of teachers in the life of a student. With the right attitude towards the children in their care, a teacher has the immense power to influence, encourage and support every child while guiding them in the right direction to them fulfilling their dreams and achieve their goals.

For each and every girl and boy reading this: know that you are not only the future. You are the present as well. In your hands you hold opportunities that you cannot even begin to fathom. Be responsible towards yourselves, your family, the environment and the world at large. Remember that everything you do is a choice. Your parents, family, teachers and support system continue to guide you to make the correct choices in life.

CHOOSE WELL. CHOOSE CORRECTLY. CHOOSE GOOD.
