The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 stands as a flare of change in India's educational landscape, heralding a paradigm shift towards a more holistic and multidisciplinary approach. The policy announced after a gap of over three decades, is a comprehensive blueprint designed to address the evolving needs of the education world.
One of the key pillars of NEP 2020 is its emphasis on multidisciplinary education. The policy envisions a learning experience that transcends traditional boundaries, fostering a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of knowledge across disciplines. This approach is not just about studying different subjects; it's about creating well-rounded individuals equipped to tackle the complexities of the real world. Multidisciplinary education under NEP 2020 goes beyond the conventional compartmentalisation of science, commerce, and humanities. It encourages learners to explore a diverse range of subjects, allowing them to discover and develop their interests organically. This collaborative ethos is crucial in an era where many of the most pressing challenges require a multifaceted approach.

The Telegraph Online Edugraph spoke to Amrita Chandra Raju, Vice Principal of HPS on the occasion of its centenary celebrations and she added “NEP 2020 does advocate that one can do Biology with Music but in HPS we have always emphasised it. I believe that now the school’s vision is portrayed in the National Education Policy. So we are going to go back to it stronger, believing in ourselves more”.
NEP 2020 also recognises the importance of integrating vocational education with mainstream academic learning. By providing students with practical skills alongside theoretical knowledge, the policy seeks to bridge the gap between education and employability. This integration is essential in preparing students for a competitive job market that values not only academic knowledge but also practical skills and real-world application.

The Telegraph Online Edugraph also spoke to Gusti Noria, President of The HPS Society on the occasion and he added “We are borrowing the best practices from NEP and we are already adopting it and that's the reason we are building newer blocks with the classroom sizes as defined in the NEP. Experiential learning which is an integral part of NEP is going to be introduced soon”.
The National Education Policy 2020's multidisciplinary approach marks a significant departure from the conventional educational framework. By fostering a holistic learning experience, NEP 2020 aims to produce graduates who are not just specialists in their fields but also possess the versatility and adaptability required in an ever-evolving world. As India embarks on this transformative journey, the impact of NEP 2020 on the nation's educational landscape is poised to be profound and far-reaching.
