National Cadet Corps, often called NCC, is a training programme for school and college students. It is a voluntary programme and any student can join it. The main aim of NCC is to create an organised, trained and motivated youth. NCC cadets are provided training which not only grooms them to become better citizens of the country, but it is also beneficial for them if they want to join the Indian Armed Forces.
There are two wings of the NCC. The Junior Wing and the Senior Wing. The minimum age to join the NCC Junior Wing is 13 years while a candidate can join the senior wing of NCC up to the age of 26 years.
Benefits of Joining NCC
Apart from personality development skills, NCC cadets are provided with certificates after the completion of training and fulfilling other conditions like attendance etc. NCC offers three certificates based on the duration of training, i.e. 'A' certificate, 'B' Certificate and 'C' Certificate.
A candidate will be able to obtain the different certificates by completing the different levels of training with the NCC. While candidates with A and B certificates get certain benefits if they want to join the the Indian Army as a Jawan. On the other hand, candidates with 'C' Certificate will get certain benefits while joining as officers with the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force or as a Jawan.
'C' Certificate
This is the most important certificate of NCC training. It is the highest level of certification. The NCC 'C' certificate always give an advantage to the candidates.

NCC 'C' Certificate benefits in joining the Indian Army
At the Indian Military Academy, 32 vacancies are reserved for the 'C' Certified NCC Candidates in every regular course. However, to join IMA it's a must for all candidates to be declared successful by the Services Selection Board.
Apart from this, NCC cadets with C Certificate are exempted from CDS examination conducted by UPSC. However, to avail this exemption, a candidate must have 'A' r 'B' grade in the 'C' certificate.
For the post of Soldier GD exam, the written exam will be waived off for candidates having NCC 'C' certificates.
Benefits of NCC 'C' Certificate in joining Indian Air Force
In the pilot course, 10 percent vacancies are reserved for NCC cadets.
NCC 'C' Certificate benefits in joining Indian Navy
In the Indian Navy, candidates having NCC 'C' certificate get 6 extra marks for the job of Sailor and 15 extra marks while applying for Artificer Apprentices.
Apart from this, upto 9 vacancies are reserved for NCC 'C' certified candidates. Also, in Sailor recruitment, these candidates get extra 6 marks.
