Question 1 consists of 15 MCQs with one mark for each.

Question 2 carries a total of 25 marks. It has five sub-parts each carrying five marks. This includes

a) Diagram-based questions

b) Match the columns

c)Complete the following by choosing the correct answer from the bracket

d) Identify the term used

e)Structural formula writing and IUPAC names of organic compounds

Here it is to be noted that all questions in Section A are compulsory while in Section B, students will have to answer four questions out of six. Each question will carry ten marks.

"Read all the chapters from any standard book according to the scope of ICSE 2024 Chemistry Syllabus. Don't miss any part as all chapters are equally important. Try to solve the previous years' questions and solve mock papers as well," said teacher Sanchita Banerjee.

"Students must utilise the 15-minute time before the start of the exam for reading the question paper and follow the instructions given in the question paper. If the question paper mentions that the name of the compound must be mentioned, they should write the name and not the formulae of the compound," she said.

"If the students are asked about their observations, they should write their observations carefully. There is no need for any equation. On the other hand, if students are asked to copy and complete an answer, then they must copy the part in their answer sheet and then write the answers. They must also remember to balance the equations," she said.

Teacher Sanchita Banerjee also provided the students with tips to improve their marks in the Chemistry paper. She advised students to think properly before writing the answers.

"In the case of diagram-based questions, try to understand the diagram and related questions before answering them. To find out the Empirical formula of a compound must make a Table and show all the calculations related to that Numerical," she said.

"In the case of Chemical bonding, students must show electron transfer and Octet formation of anion in case of ionic bond and sharing of electrons in case of covalent bond. For Ammonium ion and Hydronium ions students must mention lone pair of electron and co-ordinate bond," she added.

Commenting on time management by the students, she said that students can either start with Section A or Section B and must complete one section before starting with the other.

"Students should not waste time on any particular question. They should try to complete Section A within 45 to 50 minutes and Section B within 50 minutes. The remaining 10-15 minutes should be kept for revision," she advised.
