Recruiters love raw talent as freshers bring new points of view to the table. New to the job market, freshers are always ready to go the extra mile to prove their mettle to the employer. Here’s why you have a good chance of being hired as a fresher:

  • New perspectives: As a fresher, you bring a unique approach to handling everyday problems. You’ll see problems from a new perspective and develop new solutions, which may be just the right thing for the organisation.

  • More responsive to training: You aren’t overburdened with professional experience. That’s why it would be easier for companies to train and mould you as an asset who can easily absorb and adapt to the organisation.

  • Good with technology: Technology is an essential feature of the operation of any enterprise. You’ll be more efficient in dealing with technology than your older colleagues at the workplace.

  • Cost-efficient hiring: You’ll be a cost-efficient asset for the organisation as your cost to company (CTC) would be less than what more experienced professionals would demand.

How to search for jobs as a fresher:

Do you depend on Google to browse through available opportunities? It’s not going to help much because not all job listings are for freshers. A more pointed approach is likely to come in more handy than such random searches. Here’re a few pointers that you need to keep in mind while looking for jobs:

  • Campus placements: Almost every reputable institute has a functioning placement cell that efficiently connects graduating students with recruiters. Campus placements increase your chances of landing a job because you are competing against a smaller pool of candidates and are more confident. However, it’s not a good idea to rely only on this mode of finding a job as you might find better opportunities through off-campus placements.

  • Referrals: This is arguably the most successful technique for a fresher to get a job. You can ask people you know for recommendations for open positions in their companies. You can find these people through the alumni network, employees from the company where you interned, or even friends and relatives. Many businesses have referral programmes to hire persons referred by current employees. It’s important to remember that a referral can get you an interview seat. Then it's up to you to impress the interview panel to land the job you've been waiting for.

  • Career events: Job fairs and other career events provide an excellent opportunity for fresh graduates to meet with a variety of recruiters all in one place. It puts your CV, contact information and social media connections in front of a large number of potential employers. Major IT companies frequently recruit at job fairs, so make sure you attend the best career events in your city.

  • Job portals: Online employment websites are the most convenient place to start your job search. Create your profile with all the important information and start focusing your search on the appropriate employment category. Most online job portals allow you to narrow down your job search to the smallest of parameters such as skills, job type and location. This guarantees that you only apply for and receive offers for jobs that are a good fit for you.

  • Walk-in interviews: Most companies advertise job openings in newspapers as well as on their websites and job boards. These interviews take place on a specific date and time. You don't need an invitation or an appointment; all you have to do is show up at the interview site on time. It provides an excellent opportunity for freshers to increase their chances of obtaining a job.

  • Social media: Most recruiting firms and companies rely on social media these days to find quality candidates. As a result, a fresher's job search plan must include social media. You can build a profile and begin networking with others to know about opportunities. Communicate with your connections and use your social media presence to good effect and build your network.

  • Direct contact: You need to approach people directly for a job. It’s not a difficult task if you plan in advance and prepare yourself accordingly. One of the best ways to do that is by finding out the email ids of potential recruiters and sending out emails asking them if there’s any opportunity for you. You can also visit different offices and submit your CV to the person concerned.
