With the board examinations concluding, students are about to start preparing for the various entrance examinations to be conducted throughout the country. The season of the competitive examination will begin soon and students will be toiling hard to secure good rank in these examinations which in turn will help them secure admission in various undergraduate courses.

The Telegraph Online Edugraph spoke with several educationists to help students through this tiresome journey. The educationists shared their valuable insights for the students which will help them in achieving good results in the upcoming exams.

This time, we spoke with Teacher A K Maiti, Head of the Chemistry Department, Birla High School who shared his valuable insights on the subject for students appearing in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) examination.

Educator Maity focussed on the in-depth knowledge over Chemistry and advised aspirants to become familier with the NEET UG syllabus before appearing in the examination and develop the skill of solving numerical problems promptly and correctly.

"Studying NCERT text book and NCERT Exempler is very essential as students will be asked questions from these books," said teacher Maity.

He also focussed on speed and accuracy with which students need to answer questions.

"To answer question fast and accurately, students will have to think critically and find the correct solution promptly. Only then, a student can score good marks. However, this is not an easy task as it requires a lot of practice," said the educator.

According to him, students preparing for NEET UG should avoid practising JEE (Main/Advance) level questions as the exam never requires such preparation and focussed more on solving past years' question papers.

"Avoid studying Chemistry from numerous sources. Too much of study material may confuse an aspirant. Make quick notes while studying everyday for last-manute revision," he advised.

"Learn, derive and practice instead of memorising. Practice formulae (Chemical and numerical), Chemical equations (organic and Inorganic) from both class 11 and Class 12 syllabus that are important in Chemistry," he added.

Commenting on the prepartion strategies to be adopted by the students he suggested that students should focus more on Organic Chemistry (Preparation, Property, uses and conversions).

"If someone is good at conversion, it means that the student is good in organic chemistry. Do not forget to give stress on competency based questions, particularly, arranging the compounds according to a specific property, 'Justify', 'Give reason'- type questions," said educator Maity.

"In Inorganic Chemistry, particularly in s-block, p-block, d-block and f-block, no need to memorise the table containing data. Just understand the trend the property and the logic which is used to explain a particular property or phenomenon. A lot of competency questions are there in this part of chemistry," he added.

He also advised students to avoid giving preference to any particular chapter and study everything with equal importance.

"Do not only read, learn and write the key points on the notebook and keep on practising whatever you learn," he added.

Finally, he asked students to take mock tests, analyse their performance in the mock tests and be more determined to improve further.
