Going for a BA and MA in Education

• You need to clear your Class XII board exams with at least 50% marks to get admission to a BA course. Different colleges set different cut-offs for admission at the graduate level.
• A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a UGC-recognised university with 50% aggregate is required for postgraduate courses. Some universities conduct their own entrance exams for admission to the course. After a postgraduate degree, you may also go for an MPhil or PhD in Education.

Job prospects with a degree in Education:

• Teaching: You can specialise in early childhood education, secondary education or special education. Responsibilities will include preparing lesson plans and conducting tests to educate students based on their age and skills. Creating and enforcing classroom rules and informing parents of their children’s progress are other aspects of this role.
• Education administrator: An administrator designs school programmes and helps teachers prepare their lesson plans in keeping with state- and national-level standards. They also provide teachers with instructional guidance for professional development.
• Educational mental health practitioner: These professionals help young people deal with mental health issues and offer them the support they need.
• Education welfare officer: They provide advice and guidance to students, helping them to reach their full potential. They work for local education boards or education regulatory bodies.
• Education consultant: They are hired by educational institutions to monitor the performance of teachers, work on the allotment of the budget with the administration and identify the focus areas for educators.
• Community education officer: They work in the public sector and usually work with diverse communities. These professionals help organise education and training campaigns in those communities.
• Training and development expert: They are hired by companies and public sector entities to train their workforce. These experts are hired by healthcare service providers, law firms, financial companies and retail organisations.
