Vivekananda Mission School, inspired by the words of the world-renowned poet, Jibanananda Das chose to present the essence, beauty, richness and cultural diversity of our beloved Ruposhi Bangla through a cultural program, on the occasion of Annual Function. The annual prize distribution and cultural program was held on 12 November 2022 at Kala Mandir. The day was meant to celebrate the success of our students in academics as well as in various other fields.
The Annual Function, this session, was undoubtedly a very special one since we could finally come together and assemble physically to feast our eyes on the spectacular program presented by our super-talented students right from the lower primary section to the senior-most classes. The program commenced with the students’ choir chanting the prayer song followed by the School song.
Our state West Bengal is known for its unique topography. It has the mighty Himalayas as well as serene sea beaches within its territorial boundaries, intervening in between is the lavish green valley of the Ganges delta. With the Himalayas as its crown and the Bay of Bengal at its feet, our motherland is the epitome of beauty and the queen of our hearts. Her beauty has been the greatest artistic muse to many and has inspired many great works over the years.‘Naibedya’ our school choir comprising the teachers presented a song that overtly spoke about the opulence of our motherland. The words ‘kon puraton praner tane chuteche mon matir tane’ accurately stated how important it is to remain close to our roots.
In today's depreciating world when we are being consumed relentlessly by human follies, natural disasters, pandemics, fear of death, and fear of losing loved ones, the only thing that can support us to stand upright amidst this emotional turmoil is our root, that takes in our motherland, our mother tongue, our rich culture and heritage and it is true to all walks of life.
VMS had the privilege and honour to have two eminent personalities from the Indian film fraternity- Miss Nandita Roy and Mr. Shiboprasad Mukherjee as the guests in chief for the day. The famous director duo has co-directed films that have been not only critically acclaimed and commercially successful but have been appreciated for their socially relevant content especially related to modern parenting, childhood which has earned them a distinguished place in today’s society. Both of them have been honoured with the Mahanayak Uttom Kumar Somman and Shera Bangali 2016 Somman.
The words of wisdom shared by our honourable guests-in-chief were a great source of inspiration for the gathering.
The members of the governing body and the guests in chief offered flowers to the portraits of Swamiji and our late Founder Sir, Sri C G Chandra. This was followed by our Rector, Arnab Chandra addressing the audience with an inspiring speech urging the parents to help the children take part in more such activities to help them foster innovation, increase confidence and nurture creativity.
The annual prize distribution ceremony for the session 2021- 2022 was scheduled next, where the achievers of ICSE and ISC batches of 2021 and 2022 were also awarded. Apart from academics, students were also awarded based on several criteria such as for being multi-talented, for their out of the box thinking and so on. This prize distribution ceremony was followed by our Principal, Sarmistha Banerjee Sister’s virtual presentation of the annual report.
The audience witnessed a spectrum of performances that was conceived to manifest the grandeur of Bengal and has been aptly named after the magnum opus ‘Rupashi Bangla’, a collection of verses composed by Jibananada Da, one of the greatest poets in the Bengali language. (His masterwork depicts his love for the astounding beauty of Bengal and has portrayed even the most inconsequential detail with great flamboyance and eloquence.)
The opulence of Bengal was showcased through different forms of performing arts. The prolific performances of our students mesmerised one and all present at the venue. Around 255 students from the Pre-Primary, Primary, Secondary and Higher Secondary sections had taken part in the cultural program that was inclusive of dance, songs, and recitals. The program spoke volumes about how talented every performer is.
The program portrayed the beauty, richness and cultural diversity of our beloved Bengal. Highlights of places like Bishnupur, Bardhaman, Nadia, Murshidabad, Darjeeling, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri were showcased. Dance forms like Gambhira, Chhau; sweets like sitabhog,mihidana; the prayer song of Belur Math; haat in Bankura; flowers like palaash and simul; Baul songs; Durga Puja and Dhunuchi naach were few of the highlights of the performance.
Songs like Aakash aamai bhorlo aaloe, rai jago,aaha ki anondo, khader dharer railing,banglar mati banglar jol along with wonderful dance performances left the audience awestruck. Lastly, the performance ended with a message that it is essential for us to preserve our roots and tradition. It is our responsibility to keep the beauty of Bengal alive for generations to come. Bengal with her pristine features is a priceless asset in which we take mighty pride in.
The immaculate performance portrayed the days of hardwork. This would not have been possible without the tireless joint effort of the teachers and the performers. The audience went home reminiscing about their connection with their beloved Bengal and probably humming the tune abar ashibo phire dhansiritir tire ei banglay !
