National Doctor’s Day is celebrated in India annually on 1 July. The day commemorates the birth of Bidhan Chandra Roy, a medical practitioner who fought for independence. It was first celebrated in 1991 to mark and honour Mahatma Gandhi’s personal doctor who was also the Chief Minister of West Bengal. This year’s theme for National Doctor’s Day “Celebrating Resilience and Healing Hands”, aims to recognise the valuable efforts of our medical professionals during the Covid-19 pandemic.
