Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Coochbehar, West Bengal organised a six-day Uttaran ceremony which was divided into different parts. The event brought together farmers, agricultural students, teachers, education and extension workers, agricultural scientists and agri-entrepreneurs. Along with various agricultural companies, NGOs, and self-help groups under one umbrella.

The Vice-Chancellor of this varsity, Dr Swaroop Kumar Chakraborty, stated, “through this program, farmers, NGOs as well as the scientists, teachers, extension workers, and entrepreneurs involved in the agricultural sector will also benefit.”

The first three days were all about training and exhibitions which were based on agriculture. The event also included job opportunities for agricultural students in various aspects of careers along with direct interaction of students with various agricultural companies.

“In the field of agricultural extension, Panchanan Burma University has launched Radio 89.6 Radio FM, a broadcast for agricultural-related programmes from 10 am to 11 am,” said Prof. Pradeep Kumar Kar, Director of Science Department at Panchanan Burma University.

He also thanked the State Agricultural University for providing valuable agricultural information to the farmers through the community radio station.

Amongst the dignitaries present at the event was the Vice-Chancellor of Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya Dr Swaroop Kumar Chakraborty, and The Registrar Prof. Pradyut Kumar Pal.

Along with the Director of Research, Prof. Ashok Chowdhury and the Director of Extension Education, Prof. Prabhat Kumar Pal. Additionally, the Director of the Science Department of Panchanan Burma University and Chairman of Cooch Behar Radio, Prof. Pradeep Kumar Kar were also present at the event.

The acting Dean of Faculty of Agriculture, Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya Prof Kalyan Kanti Das said that joint decision for agricultural work is necessary and through this decision, the farmers will be able to reach a new farm.

“The Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya has occupied one of the leading positions in agricultural research and extension in the country and abroad, which is a matter of pride indeed,” said Prof. Nripendra Laskar, the Dean of Student Welfare.

Subsequently, towards the end of the event, a national-level conference was conducted where seminars and posters were presented. The conference focused on agricultural technology advancement, innovation of new technology and the development of entrepreneurs in agriculture and other fields.

“Participation of rural women in the agriculture sector is increasing day by day and this is a positive aspect towards the development of agriculture. Additionally, agricultural technology should be developed keeping in mind gender neutrality. Meanwhile, agricultural extension workers should focus on increasing its proper dissemination and acceptance,” quoted Prof. Apurba Kumar Chowdhury, Dean of Post Graduate Department.

“Depending on the nature of the land and the quality of soil, farmers should pay attention to commercial farming,” stated Prof. Ashok Chowdhury, Director of Research.

The event concluded with a reunion where the present students got the opportunity to interact with the alumni.
