The Inauguration Ceremony was conducted by the Vice Chancellor of Amity University Kolkata, Prof. Dr Sanjay Kumar Sir, and the Registrar of Amity University Kolkata Prof. Dr. Amrita Saha inaugurated the fest and declared ‘Theatr-o-mania’ 2023 open.

'Theatr-o-mania, where Dream Meets the Reality', a theatre fest, was held on the 11th of May 2023 at Amity University Kolkata. The festival brought together some of the most talented and innovative artists from across the city of Kolkata, who presented their best works on stage.

The festival featured the artistry of more than 20 colleges. The Inauguration Ceremony was conducted by the Vice Chancellor of Amity University Kolkata, Prof. Dr Sanjay Kumar Sir, and the Registrar of Amity University Kolkata Prof. Dr. Amrita Saha inaugurated the fest and declared ‘Theatr-o-mania’ 2023 open.

The ceremony was later followed by a Dance performance on Saraswati Vandana and a Musical Performance, setting the tone for the festival which created a sense of excitement and anticipation among the audience and performers alike.

Samajh Katha (Street Play) and Natya Mandir (Stage Play) took place simultaneously in different venues. Street play, also known as "Nukkad Natak" in India, is an important form of theatre that has significant social, cultural, and political relevance.

The judges for Samajh Katha were Mr Sumanta Sarkar and Mr Ratro Biswas. Bhawanipore Education Society (winner), Scottish Church (1st Runner Up), and Shri Shikshayatan (2nd Runners up) along with the home team Amity University Kolkata showcased an immense amount of dedication towards the cause.

Stage plays are a powerful medium for artistic expression. Through storytelling, acting, music, and stage design, stage plays can create a powerful and immersive experience for audiences.

10 colleges registered for the event (10 being the maximum available slot for the event). Esteemed judges for the stage play were Mr Sumalya Bhattacharya and Mr Rupak Guria. Colleges like iLead, Maulana Azad, Bhawanipore Education Society and so many more participated and gave goosebumps-worthy performances.

Through a journey of storytelling, acting, music, and good stage design, Bhawanipore Education Society was declared the winner, whereas the home team, Amity University Kolkata was the 1st Runners Up and Maulana Azad was the 2nd Runners Up.

There was also a 16:9 Bonanza (Short Film Screening) event, for which 10 colleges registered. Creative top 5 short films out of 10 colleges that were selected by the judges beforehand. The judges for 16:9 Bonanza were Mr. Sumalaya Bhattacharya, Mr. Rupak Guria, Mr. Ratro Biswas, and Mr. Sumanta Sarkar. The Heritage Academy, Sister Nivedita University, Amity University Kolkata, The Heritage College, and Bhawanipore Education Society were the top 5 colleges whose short films were screened.

Bhawanipore Education Society won the Best Film Award (Winner), followed by The Heritage Academy being the 1st Runners Up and The Heritage College being the 2nd Runners Up.

The event concluded with a Felicitation Ceremony of the Judges, followed by a Prize Distribution Ceremony where awards like Best Actor and Best Actress for Street Play, Stage Play, and 16:9 Bonanza were given along with awards for Best Director, Best Production, Best Dialogue, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Story and Best Editor. A Vote of Thanks was finally given and Theatr-o-mania 2023 was finally declared closed.
