The inter-school fest of Youthopia ’23 organised by The Heritage School was a masterclass in management by the students of the institution. The three-day event which took place from 26 to 28 April, turned out to be a massive success, and bore witness to the dedication and capability of the young organisers.
Senior students were divided into 5 groups, each with their own colour-coded t-shirts and well-defined responsibilities. There was the core group in white tees, directors in dark blue, executives in light blue, logistics in red and security in black.
The core group was responsible for the guest artists’ events, which were the performances by DJ Vicky on the inaugural day and the duo Sachin-Jigar on the last. Every other inter-school event had one director in charge, along with a school teacher. The duty of the director was to coordinate every aspect of their designated event, which includes inviting the judges as well. The teachers formed a strong support system for the students to see it through with the adroitness of seasoned professionals.
Pulling off Youthopia ‘23 came with its challenges, as Tanay Maskara, President of Youthopia ‘23 and School Co-Captain, speaking to The Telegraph Online Edugraph stated: “We got only two months to prepare, (from) March to April end, and in the middle of that was the financial year-end. So getting sponsors was tough for us. Other than that, one week before Youthopia, we had schools locked down in West Bengal, so we were scared if Youthopia would happen or not, and had to answer to the participating schools as well.”
Preyashi Aggarwal, CEO of Youthopia ‘23 and School Co-Captain, echoed her friend’s feelings, saying:
“Two months is like a really, really short period of time to collect funds, to inform schools, to even make the logistical arrangement in school, from water to stationery, to stage and to production.”
The students of The Heritage School, however, faced the challenges undaunted and triumphantly overcame the obstacles. “We had extra days, stayed back after school and put in the work to make it happen,” mentioned Snehal Jalan, Core Member and School Representative. Decisions were taken unanimously, and everybody helped out to make the event a success.
It was a learning experience for the students, as Tanay stated: “I actually learnt how to take up challenges and patiently handle them rather than bursting out.” “Teamwork is the most important thing,” said Preyashi. And that actually made the dream work happen for making Youthopia ‘23 a grand success.
