The 17th WinterFest of The Cambridge School, the much-anticipated annual affair, was held on 24 November, 2023 at Uttam Manch. Like every year, the thoughtful and active participation of the members of the TCS community - the students, teachers, administrators, parents and well-wishers made this year’s fest, too, a grand success. The evening began with the Principal, Mrs Sunita Chowdhary’s welcome address to the audience. In her speech, Mrs Chowdhary spoke about how The Cambridge School encourages independent thinking and intellectual curiosity that motivates students to inculcate learning as a life-long habit. A range of exciting co-curricular activities such as Robotics and 3D designing, Chess and Taekwondo had been successfully conducted throughout the year and thoroughly enjoyed by the students.
After these important announcements, Mrs Chowdhary warmly welcomed Mr Jayant Kripalani, the honoured chief guest for the evening and spoke at length about Mr. Kripalani’s notable contribution to Indian theatre, television and cinema. Following the welcome address, Mrs Chowdhary requested Dr. Kripalani to say a few words and award the prizes and scholarships to the meritorious students before the start of the show.
The welcome address and the prize distribution being over, the much-awaited End of Year Fest began with the first item of the evening, an exuberant adaptation of ‘The Selfish Giant’ presented by the little students of Junior school, classes Nursery-2.
The next item was ‘Home and Away’ that beautifully attempted to depict how travelling enriches our knowledge and appreciation about other cultures presented by students from classes three to seven.
The play was a potpourri of lively colours, vibrant costumes, catchy rhythms and graceful dance performances that perfectly set the mood for the evening. The following item was an adaptation of Tagore’s acclaimed dance drama Chitrangada, presented by students from classes Eight to the AS Level. A narrative musical, it is the story of the eponymous warrior princess, depicting her meeting with the great archer and third Pandav, Arjun, of the epic Mahabharat. The talented team of actors, dancers, musicians, narrators with their sincere dedication made this theatrical extravaganza a visual treat that enthralled the audience.
The last item on the agenda was presented by students from A Levels, a play adaptation of the Jeeves and Wooster TV series by PG Wodehouse, where a well-to-do British bachelor, Bertie Wooster, relies on his talented valet to extricate him and his friends from their societal mishaps.
With great elan, our bunch of enthusiastic young actors portrayed the idiosyncrasies of the characters and their hilarious antics that had the audience in fits. With a special vote of thanks by the Senior School coordinator and the curtain call, the happy evening concluded.
