Summary

After the initiation of the National Science Day (Phase-1) celebration on 28.02.2024, the celebratory atmosphere was carried forward for the conclusive phase after a hiatus of about three months. This apt conclusion, National Science Day (Phase-2) has been celebrated by The Bhawanipur Education Society (BES) College on 24.06.2024 in association with Seminar/FDP/Workshop Committee and Peer Student Committee of the Science Section.

In the Phase-2 celebration, the events unfolded in two parts:

1. Inter-Departmental Peer Student Presentation

In this event, students across different departments of the Science Section presented interesting vistas about different eminent personalities of scientific mettle namely Claude Shannon, Dr. Amartya Sen, Elon Musk, Aryabhatta and many more. The whole event was judged by Mr. Tathagata Sen and Ms. Pushpita Gangopadhyay, Associate Professors in the departments of English and Statistics, respectively.

Like in a competition, the students had faced nervous moments when addressing the audience and the judges. At the end of each presentation, the constructive suggestions of the honourable judges and applause from the audience boosted their confidence. This event primarily got an opportunity to judge the ‘information cultivation power’ of the students in their corresponding topics in order to synthesize relevant information. The judges and the audience both had chosen the winners of this competition and were rewarded with the Judges’ Choice and Audience Choice awards as follows;

The Department of Chemistry - Aishiki Guchait and Aarfa Mustafa

2. Inter-Departmental Quiz Competition

The finale offering of the day was the quiz competition among the science section departments which emerged as the most exhilarating event. The purpose of this event was to disseminate scientific knowledge in a fun-filled and enjoyable way thereby improving the cognitive and critical thinking among the students. Additionally, the motive of this quiz competition was to strengthen teamwork and to boost communication skills by creating a friendly environment.

Six teams comprising three students from each department participated in the competition. A total of four rounds divided into two segments tested the nerves and brain of the quizzers.

The quizmaster, Mr. Utsab Mukherjee of the department of Computer Science ensured that the nerves really tickled and the brains bulldozed with interesting questions, one after another. The quizmaster also engaged the audience with bouts of interesting inquiries into general science. The eventual winners of this event were;

The Department of Mathematics - Souptik Biswas, Nibedita Roy and Sarbajeet Sarkar

First Runners-up:

The Department of Computer Science - Pritam Guha, Rahul Mitra and Mrittika Kargupta

Second Runners-up:

The Department of Chemistry - Atreyee Banerjee, Naureen Yasmin and Md. Faraz Karim

The fruitful day came to a sweet conclusion with the prize distribution ceremony for the competitions and was finally brought to an end by the impactful vote of thanks by Dr. Subarnarekha Bhattacharya, Associate Professor in the department of Physics and convenor of the National Science Day (Phase-2) celebration.
