Engineers’ Day is celebrated annually to honour the legendary engineer Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya on his birth anniversary. This year, the Supreme Knowledge Foundation (SKF) proudly co-hosted the Engineers’ Day celebration with Tata Consulting Engineers Limited (TCEL) on September 19, 2024. This event not only recognised the significant social contributions of engineers but also aimed to inspire innovation in the realms of engineering and technology.
The celebration commenced with a warm welcome from prominent faculty members. Prof (Dr) Dhrubasish Sarkar, Principal and Department Chair of CSE, IT Studies and ECE, alongside Prof (Dr) Tripti Guin Biswas, Principal and Chief Administrative Officer, Prof Sukanya Datta Das, Vice Principal, Diploma Section, SKF and Prof (Dr) Ramakanta Patra, Dean of Management Studies at SKF, greeted and felicitated the TCEL delegates. Senior management officials from TCEL participated virtually, while approximately 14 delegates attended the event on campus, all united in their commitment to honouring the invaluable contributions of engineers to society.

In his welcome address, Prof Sarkar expressed heartfelt thanks to TCEL for their crucial support in making the event a reality. He observed that the event was not just a celebration but an opportunity to reflect on achievements and to look ahead to the challenges and opportunities that lie before the talented students. He emphasised that the students’ innovations represent the future of engineering, and the institute is eager to showcase their potential for personal and professional growth.

Prof Biswas addressed the students with an empowering message, urging them to pursue excellence, nurture their curiosity, and embrace the responsibilities they hold as the architects of tomorrow’s world. Prof Patra also shared his wishes for the day, prompting students to reflect on the core values of dedication, perseverance, and service to society that define the engineering profession.
Partha Sarathi Ghosh, Senior General Manager & Delivery Centre Head, Kolkata, delivered the inaugural talk virtually, reinforcing the pivotal role of engineers in nation-building and technological advancement. Following this, Susmita Saha Dhar, a Process Engineer, shared her valuable insights on the proliferation of engineering streams and courses available today. She discussed the steep rise in practical-oriented fields and highlighted the significance of all academic disciplines in a country’s progress. Furthermore, she emphasised the importance of enhancing the visibility of emerging engineers to showcase their competencies across various domains.

Sourav Kr Nandi inspired attendees with his speech, focusing on TCEL's sustainable projects and technological advancements. Meanwhile, Debasis Maity and Suvadip Koley discussed current trends within TCEL, covering vital topics such as renewable energy, smart cities, and the impact of digitalisation on engineering practices.
