The Postgraduate and Research Department of Biotechnology at St Xavier’s (Autonomous) College, Kolkata, is all set to host the second edition of the International Symposium on Biotechnology (ISBT-2024) on November 12 and November 13, 2024. This prestigious event will bring together leaders in biotechnology and life sciences, fostering an engaging platform for innovation and knowledge exchange.
The symposium will feature sessions on genomics, nanotechnology, cancer genetics, and the transformative role of artificial intelligence in biology and drug design, areas gaining momentum after this year’s Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Rev Dr Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal of St Xavier’s, will inaugurate the event, marking the release of the symposium's ISBN-indexed proceedings and the 14th edition of the Departmental Magazine, ‘Chiasma’, available in both print and digital formats.
Esteemed speakers include Dr Arindam Maitra from the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics, Dr Vinod Scaria from Vishwanath Cancer Care Foundation, UNESCO Chair in Biodiversity Prof Helena Freitas from Portugal, Dr Axel Innes of INSERM, University of Bordeaux in France, and Indian luminaries like Prof Rupa Mukhopadhyay from IACS Kolkata and Dr Shamik Chowdhury from IIT Kharagpur. These experts will deliver keynote and plenary lectures, sparking interdisciplinary scientific discussions.
Over 150 registrations from 25+ academic institutions nationwide highlight the symposium's growing popularity. Participants, including students and scholars, will showcase their research in oral and poster presentations, with winners to be announced at the valedictory session on November 13.
