The Postgraduate and Research Department of Economics at St Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata, proudly presents the 17th edition of its highly anticipated national level annual summit, Confluence, on September 10, 2024. This flagship event, organised by the Xavier’s Economics Society, is set to be a thought-provoking gathering of some of the brightest minds in economics.
The summit will open with an inaugural address by Rev Dr Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal of St Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata, setting the tone for a day filled with rigorous debate and intellectual exchange. Following this, the Chief Guest, Prof Soumyen Sikdar, a distinguished figure in economic academia, will deliver the keynote speech, providing valuable insights into the current economic scenario.
Confluence has, over the years, established itself as a prestigious platform for students to delve into complex economic theories, debate pressing issues, and present groundbreaking ideas. The theme for Confluence XVII is ‘Resurgent India: Which Way Now?’ – a call to navigate the intricacies of India's evolving economic landscape. This theme emphasises the pressing need for robust policies, effective governance, and inclusive growth strategies that can pave the way for a stronger, more prosperous India.

The panel discussion will be enriched by the deliberations of the panelists Prof Ajitava Ray Chaudhuri (Professor, Adamas University, Kolkata) , Dr Biswajit Mandal (Associate Professor, Visva Bharati University) and Dr Subhanil Chowdhury (Associate Professor, St Xavier’s University, Kolkata). The panel would be moderated by Dr Kumarjit Mandal, an alumni of the Economics department and Associate Professor of Department of Economics, University of Calcutta.
